What salary do you consider as being rich in the United States?

Loaf of Bread will now be $9.95 asked:

I have seen a lot of back and forth regarding the definition of rich

What would you define as being rich?

Do you take geographical location into consideration when you decide what to classify as rich? Or do you utilize a one-size-fits all approach?

@Nikki, I agree with your stance, but I am talking strictly salary in terms of taxation.

All this talk of salaries neglects other items of wealth. I know a lot of people in debt up to their armpits making money hand over fist, but in toto - they’re dirt poor.

Whatever your income if you spend more than your income you will never be rich.
Somewhere between 150 K and 200K should enable a person or family to live well, maybe very well depending on size of family and locality, almost anywhere in the US.
Excluding a major medical expense that is not covered or denied by your health insurance.

You have to consider the part of the country someone is in $85,000 in the Bay area is very different than $85,000 in Columbus Ohio.

But this is something we should not even be discussing. This question is trying to divide our country between supposed rich and supposed non rich. Good public policy should not take this into account. A fair and just government would treat everyone the same rich or poor.

Socialist like the one running for President care about rich and poor so they can take from one and give to another. Which is merely legalized theft.

Good public policy would take away obstacles so that anyone who wants to be rich could be rich, however they define it.

This depends on several factors, including where you live, how many children you have, how much taxes you pay etc. Perhaps a better way to look at it is to see if a person can do whatever they desire rather than an amount of money!

depends on your family size and where you are located.

how much debt you’re in is irrelevant. everyone should live within their means.
